The truth is that IΓÇÖve been a bit down lately. IΓÇÖve spent the better part of two years leading a project to implement a cutting edge coaching framework for a large corporate. The program wasnΓÇÖt just good; it was great. It was innovative, holistic and well thought out to support the organisationΓÇÖs strategy. It was leagues ahead of what the competitors were doing. So whatΓÇÖs the problem?

The problem is that the program has developed a gaggle of well-trained, professional coaches who all have ideas, good communications skills and the ability to articulate all the areas where the project (my child!) needs to change course, could do better, has holes!

Alas this is the lot of the creator. For every iPad there is an iPad 2.

So the question has been do I retreat to my lair and bemoan that there are people with fresh eyes who can see new perspectives? Or celebrate a program that has produced leaders with innovative ideas and the skill to articulate those ideas?

ItΓÇÖs taken many hours on the yoga mat to wrestle my ego to the ground and embrace this new generation of innovators. And it leaves me reflecting on how often this struggle impacts the leaders of organisations struggling to embrace innovation?
